There are seven different selections of Chardonnay clones at Heggies, with three favoured French Bernard variants comprising the majority of this wine. The younger plantings are trained to a vertically shoot-positioned canopy and the older vines are on a two wire vertical framework, this giving a range of flavour opportunities. Hand picking and gentle whole bunch pressing minimises the extraction of tannins and preserves natural fruit aromas. The Heggies picking and pressing regime gives fine juice with light solids; the whole juice fraction was fermented by the wild vineyard yeasts in new and previously used French oak barrels.
This wine offers a rich and complex nose, with a delightful meld of citrus zest, crème brûlée and stylish French oak and cashew notes. The palate is mouth filling, displaying pear and nougat flavours balanced by the typical Heggies Vineyard minerality. This is a wonderful Chardonnay wine with excellent length and a lingering texture.
