The concept of 'terroir' is one that is more closely associated with Old World wines than those of the New World but 'terroir' is the best way to describe the combination of elements that creates the distinctive flavour profiles of Heggies Vineyard wines.

BOTRYTIS RIESLING

Botrytis Riesling

Light, golden-yellow in colour, Heggies Botrytis Riesling is rich, luscious and mouth-filling with honeyed fruit well balanced by crisp natural acidity. The wine has a bouquet of lifted apricots and limes intermingled with classic Riesling lemon and citrus fruit characters.

CHARDONNAY

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is the flagship Heggies wine - a wine that truly bears the stamp of this exceptional vineyard. Close-planted Burgundian Chardonnay clones form the backbone of the Heggies Chardonnay style and create an extremely low-yielding viticultural environment which requires careful management but rewards with exceptional fruit quality. Natural fermentation in French oak and the use of indigenous yeasts, oxidative handling and partial malolactic fermentation adds to the individuality of the wine and its potential to further age gracefully in the bottle.

It's a wine of finesse, which offers varietal characters and flavours, showing ripe berry fruits underpinned by French oak with balance and structure.

RESERVE CHARDONNAY

Reserve Chardonnay

There had for some time been plans to release a ‘Reserve’ wine resulting from a blend of the best barrels from the best hand-picked Chardonnay fruit in the single Estate of Heggies Vineyard. The emergence of ‘I Block’ in 2005 changed all that. The Chardonnay fruit growing on these low yield vines was extraordinary. The newly cultivated Bernard clones, planted in 1992, had taken well in the rugged conditions 550m above sea level, and the afternoon westerly winds crossing the nearby lake cooled the fruit, preserving the flavours & acidity, and retaining fineness & balance.

RESERVE RIESLING

Reserve Riesling

Perfect in every sense of the word. This wine is probably the benchmark style as far as youthful drinkability and maturation potential is concerned. This wine is an outstanding example of mature Riesling. It will continue to age gracefully and will achieve further complexity over the years. A classic mature wine such as this illustrates the advantage of sealing wines under Stelvin closure rather than cork.

RIESLING

Riesling

Heggies Riesling is typically picked early and classically shows lifted lemon, lime and citrus fruit flavours together with a crisp natural acidity and a chalky mineral-like character underlying the zesty fruit. The wines are made to a dry style and are tight and restrained in their youth with excellent ageing potential.
